Kazuhito Sahara's work mainly deals with paintings and video works. The motifs, such as silhouetted people and windows, reflect Tokyo as a cosmopolitan city where various information in different forms intricately fly back and forth. The unique Japanese sensitivity, derived from the aesthetic established in Ukiyoe prints, has its important role in Sahara's expressions.
Hand-drawn paintings as his basic channel, he also applies video works for a further exploration. The motifs displayed as silhouettes, where artistic approaches are triumphed such as depicting juxtaposing borderlines, are intent on embracing ambiguity, showing "uncertainty of being here now" and "insecurity of existence". His projects range from solo exhibition, group exhibition to varied workshops. In addition, he organizes collaborative events with artists of different fields, in which he as a VJ (a laptop performer) also participates. Sahara was born in Tokyo in 1975, and lives and works in Tokyo. (translated by Yaeko Shibata)
