Yuichiro Tamura was born in 1977, lives and works in Japan. He received Master of Arts in the film at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2010, enrolled in the PhD program. He works with video, photography and performance, explores the boundary between technology and aesthetic realm. His works also address archive and history of films. Tamura won the Excellent Prize in the 14th Japan Media Arts Festival with this piece, Nightless in 2011.
Nightless is a road movie composed of moving images only from Google Street View. The story transcends national borders as it takes spectators on a journey from Nebraska to Chiba, Alaska, Portugal and Marseille. The sun never sets on the views in this movie. The first half features dubbing by the artist himself, while the second half uses audio from YouTube. |
